Squeaking Tribe Puppets
Step into the studio of Squeaking Tribe Puppets and you’ll find yourself surrounded by movement, magic and wonder. Puppeteer extraordinaire, Anna Sue Courtney, creates and performs with characters straight out of her own imagination. A believer that she can communicate more by moving, Anna Sue has had a lifelong love of puppets, movement and dance. She helped build the foundation for puppetry at her Pennsylvania college by majoring in theater but doing an independent study in the subject. After planting roots in Huntsville, she began spreading her skills through many Huntsville staples, teaching at the Huntsville Museum of Art and UAH, working with local organizations like the Huntsville Feminist Chorus.
A kinetic learner and an arts instigator, Anna Sue can turn anything into a puppet, attributing the talent to her animated brain. Whether it be carving a pepper to give it a face, using light and shadow to create a scene, putting doll parts on an old bottle or even making the standard sock puppet but with a unique twist, Anna Sue has a specialty for using the world around her to create. She loves to share her knowledge and teaches classes to both kids and adults.
